Osteopath Zena Hewett talks at the Osteopaths annual convention 2008

Zena Hewett of Dynamic Osteopathy will be giving a talk to delegates at the national British Osteopathic Association (BOA) Convention later this year. She will be presenting  her research into the posture of school children related to the furniture that they use during the school day.

Zena says, " This is a rare, and exciting opportunity to speak before my fellow colleagues at our annual professional gathering. I will also be flying the flag for my old osteopathic school...the College of Osteopaths. I  became interested in the potential correlation between school furniture and poor posture following health issues with one of my own children. Support from my daughter's school in promptly changing her furniture heights along with osteopathic treatment meant she quickly recovered from debilitating musculoskeletal pain and headaches. Generally in this country there is a 'one-size-fits-all' policy to school furniture sizes, but our children do NOT come in just the one size! I wanted to look into whether this approach promoted appropriate posture in the children of a given group, allowing their body's structures and organs to function as they should. Afterall, the children of today are the adults...and osteopathic patients....of now and the future."

Pictures, and comments on the event will be displayed on this site after the convention.
